We Stand in Support of Affirmative Action

From Harvard to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, race-conscious holistic admissions policies are under attack. While Asian Americans are being brought into this conversation at varying degrees, let's be clear:  Ending race-conscious admissions policies would only exacerbate the systemic racism that still exists in America. 

We won't stand for this. 

We understand that: 

• Test scores are better predictors of race and class than predictors of success in college. They don't measure one's future potential. 
• Race-conscious admissions help ensure that where we start out in life does not determine where we end up. 
• K-12 schools are more segregated now than they were 40 years ago. 
• Attacks on affirmative action are attacks on racial justice, social mobility, and Black and Brown communities.
